Recently, Work-Shop Melbourne hosted an exclusive studio-based workshop with Fine Artist/ Street Artist/ Art Director & Designer David ‘Meggs’ Hooke during his recent Australian visit.

Originally hailing from Melbourne, Meggs is a founding member of the Everfresh crew and an iconic figure in the Australian Street Art scene. He now calls LA home, so we were fortunate enough to line-up a workshop with him during his short visit!

Titled ‘Journey Is The Reward’, this 5 hour workshop gave participants an in-depth look into Meggs’ creative process from start to finish, demonstrating illustration, painting and aerosol techniques and encouraging them to shift their focus from ‘end result’ to simply enjoying the process.

A common theme in Meggs’ artwork, students explored the idea of ‘duality’ and finding harmony between form & abstraction, order & chaos, through a series of expressive and uninhibited exercises. Working on individual panels, as well as a collaborative aerosol wall, attendees were given plenty of one-on-one time for some pointers from Meggs. Wrapping up the day with discussion, drinks and delicious pupus (prepared by the lovely Miya), students were also treated to a signed limited edition Meggs print (thanks to the guys at Dangerfork) which was a pre-release for the Meggs x Dangerfork ‘Blossom & Blood’ Print which is now available.

A huge thanks to Meggs for taking the time out to come share his insights and skills with us, as well as Miya from Temple Children for all her amazing help! Thanks also to our good mates MTN Australia who, as always, hooked us up with only the finest aerosol paint, and The Sydney Art Store for the primo wooden panels!

Our girl Nella Pixels was there to capture the action on the day, which you can check out below. Thanks Nella!
