Tell us a little bit about your label (art) and what you do?
Little Myym (pronounced MIM) originally started with me designing kids and women’s clothes and accessories for the busy mum who wanted unique pieces without the price tag of the top end designers. Each piece is handmade by me, and now I’ve honed in on my craft of designing and making jewellery, for not only loved ones, but also now women around the globe!
What inspires your work?
I have always worn what I wanted to wear, so when I realised there wasn’t quite anything I wanted, I decided to make it instead! I’ve always loved chunky jewellery, but have managed to find a balance between chunky and fine jewellery in my latest collections. I love strong statement pieces, and feel they should be worn everyday!
What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
My background has been in specialised events, prior to having kids. Unfortunately it’s very difficult to produce large-scale events where travelling around the country is involved when you’re a mum! I also ran my own music promotion company in Sydney’s Kings Cross and Double Bay, and got to work with some of the country’s best talent!
What memorable responses have you had to your work?
I love it when strangers in the street ask me where I bought my jewellery, and hey presto, I hand them a business card! I’ve even sold jewellery that I’d been wearing at the time. My thought process is, your body is a walking advertisement! It’s nice seeing regular customers at the markets also coming back to buy presents for their friends and family!
One thing you can’t live without?
My phone, and my mascara (oh… and my kids lol)
What gets you up in the morning?
My kids … Literally!
How would your best friend describe you in 3 words?
Scatty, loved, creative.
What is the next skill you want to learn?
DJ-ing! I’ve worked with enough of them in the past, but I’d love to have my own decks!
What is your dream project?
To make my jewellery on a much larger scale, and do collaborations with fellow designers. We’ve got some awesome talent out there, and I know I could learn a lot.
Favourite or most inspirational place in Sydney?
The bogey hole at Bronte Beach definitely. It’s where my daughter spent a lot of her earlier years playing
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Keep trying!
What advice would you give to new, aspiring Makers?
Keep trying, and don’t conform to the masses. MAKE WHAT YOU WANT TO MAKE!
And most importantly, what would your ultimate karaoke song be?
Oh god…. No idea. Something very Rock n Roll is my guess!
