1) Tell us a little bit about your label (art) and what you do?
Me&Yu has been established in the UK for 10 years, selling hand printed t-shirts and sweatshirts, featuring our hand drawn illustrations. We have recently relocated to Australia where the new focus of the label is to create a collection of street influenced menswear, handmade in our Sydney workshop.
2) How did get into your type of work?
We’ve always been artistic but when we visited Australia in 2003 the market scene inspired us. We decided to join forces, creating and selling clothes at Bondi and Glebe Markets and learning how to create together.
3) What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Between us we’ve worked in photography, graphic design, fashion retail, administration and a postmen – the perfect combination for running your own fashion label!
4) Describe the best reactions you’ve had on work?
We’ve had heaps over the years; someone had a tattoo featuring one of our designs, which is quite a compliment!
5) One thing you can’t live without?
Computers and pencils.
6) Â Aside from coffee, what gets you up in the morning?
Cats.
7) How would your best friend describe you in 3 words?
Quirky, Adventurous, Humorous
8) What’s the next awesome skill you want to learn?
Silversmithing – we want to create a range of jewellery too!
9) Ignoring money and rules what would your dream project/artwork be?
We have our own store in Manchester, and really want to open one in Sydney too.
10) Favourite place to chill in Sydney?
We’re new here so still discovering the city!
11) What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
“You can’t design in a vacuum” Which basically means you have to get out and about and absorb as much inspiration as you can.
12) What advice would you give to new, aspiring Makers?
Just get out there and do it – you learn as you go along and making mistakes is part of the process.
13) And most importantly, what would your ultimate karaoke song be?
