Wooden it be nice if you could cause a stir with your own hand-carved spoon? As luck wood have it, we’ve snagged xylophile Julian to teach you the finer points of this age-old craft. Before mass production, wooden spoons, bowls, and plates were artisan or user-made objects. Spoon carving is as old as human history!
In this four-hour, hands-on workshop, you’ll be introduced to key concepts of green woodworking with an expert woodcarver. We’ll start with the theory behind green wood as a low-impact, environmentally sound woodcraft practice, and how to safely and ethically find harvest materials.
Then it’s time to get carving! Learn about the tools needed and essential knife skills for effective and safe carving. As well as the basics of wood moisture management, you’ll learn simple and practical techniques for drying your work and avoiding cracks. Spend the rest of the session honing your skills and carving your spoon in a calming and meditative experience.
Please note this workshop is strictly limited to 10 spots, so get in quick! The spooner, the better.
