A workshop for anyone who has ever loved a creature, lost a creature, or just wants to stitch a small, strange altar to a furry, scaly, or feathery friend!

In this hands-on embroidery class, artist and maker Liana Kappelle will guide you through the process of creating your own sentimental “pocket shrine” – a layered textile piece combining collage, embroidery, and symbolic imagery that you can keep with you, or place somewhere special. Whether you’re honouring a pet who is still by your side or memorialising one who has passed, this is a chance to craft a personal keepsake that holds memory, love, and a bit of creative weirdness.

You’ll explore foundational hand embroidery and stitching techniques, and learn how to design layered textile collages using mixed media elements. Liana will guide you in combining photos, symbols, and personal artefacts to create a portable, tactile shrine that’s both expressive and long-lasting.

No experience needed. This is a relaxed, expressive workshop for all skill levels.
