Mordant Printing for Sustainable Fashion

Bettina had to go to France to learn how to do this in a weeklong workshop. And now you can learn to do it in Redfern in an afternoon!

As yet untapped in its potential, the ancient Indian craft of Mordant printing offers a myriad of creative opportunities yet to be explored. Though similar to Blockprinting, the advantage of printing with dye is, that it doesn’t change the feel of the fabric, it remains soft to touch.

During the 3 hours you will get an introduction to principles of Printing with Dyes (mordant printing), natural dyeing and the function mordants.

We will be making trial samples to experiment with shapes, design, dyes and mordants and finish with a perfect print on a high quality linen tea towel.
