Basket weaving is an age old tradition spanning many generations and cultures. Weaving baskets is just as much a creative outlet as it is calming, social and meditative. This workshop will show you how to incorporate traditional coil weaving practices with modern materials to create our own handwoven basket.
This workshop is for anyone interested in learning basketry skills, whether you are new to basketry or have some prior experience. In this workshop you’ll learn how to weave using a combination of new, found and recycled materials. Some of the fibres we’ll be using on the day include Madagascan raffia, hemp string, Japanese cotton gima, wool, rope and more. You’ll also receive a Wild Fibres Basketry Pack to take home, which will include a range of materials and information to help you continue weaving.
After this workshop you’ll not only have the skills to weave your own basket, but a new mindfulness practice that can become a part of your daily life.
