Make A Silver Ring

Ever wanted to craft your own silver jewellery? This class is the perfect introduction for those looking to dip their toes in the shiny world of silversmithing. Using the ancient method of lost wax casting, students will learn an easy and low-cost method for making unique pieces all on their own. Lost wax casting starts with carving the desired shape from wax to create a wax model. This model is used to make a mould, which is then filled with molten silver, which melts away and replaces the wax, leaving a solid silver version. The silver casting is then carefully filed and polished to become the final ring.

We’ll cover ring design, wax ring sizing, and how to create your chosen ring using basic wax shaping techniques with files and carving tools. Explore texture and pattern through the creation of wax rings and select a favourite to have finished in 925 Silver by the teacher. Your finished ring will be posted to you within 3 weeks of the class.
