In this 6 hour intensive workshop you’ll be introduced to a range of basic leatherworking skills that will enable you to make not one, but two custom projects!
Leathercrafter and designer Katie Engelhardt from Studio Liebling will lead you through basic leather crafting techniques as you put them into practice creating your very own leather belt and card wallet. With a focus on the material, tools, and process, you’ll first get to try your hand at cutting leather, stamping and riveting to create your own custom belt made from locally sourced, Australian veg tanned leather. The second half of the workshop will be spent learning the traditional method of saddle-stitching. Katie will guide you through this sturdy leather sewing technique as you create your own 3 pocket leather card wallet that will be super-tough, compact, handy, and very, very good-looking.
Along the way you will also gain some insight into the different types of leather, it’s structure and layers, find out the difference between ‘full-grain’ and ‘genuine’ leather, how to properly care for your leather items and a little about the local leather industry and practices.
A fun and practical workshop jam-packed full of info, suitable for beginners, or anyone looking to deepen their understanding of leatherwork.
