Instagram has shaped the way businesses communicate. We can now instantly share our photography, products, services and blogs with likeminded people all around the world – without paying a cent. We can now attract a global community who will buy our products and services, and who live and breathe everything we do. But there is no point being on Instagram if you don’t know how to use it properly to grow your small creative business.
As someone who has grown an Instagram community to over 55,000 engaged people, I am excited to show you how in this practical, hands on workshop designed specifically for small creative business owners. During this workshop I will teach small creative business owners how to better use Instagram over 11 detailed modules.
Module 1: Why you need to create a community
Anyone can create an account on Instagram, but the real success lies in creating a community. In this module I’ll explain why you need to create a community of customers. It won’t be what you think!
Module2: How to create an engaged community
It doesn’t matter what stage you’re at with Instagram. Why? Because it’s never too late to put some strategy behind your posts. In this module we’ll look at your brand story, knowing your purpose, tips and tricks for finding out who your community is, choosing your best approach, creating content pillars, and lots more.
Module 3: How to take and edit high quality imagery
Today the overall look of your feed is just as important then the individual posts you share. And your photography is one of the most important aspects of growing a business and selling products and services on Instagram. But you don’t need to spend a fortune to take high quality photos. In this module, I share all my tips and tricks for taking beautiful, high quality photos and how customers perceive the quality of your brand through photography on Instagram. We’ll also look at the cameras I use, why you should never stop practising, how to create original imagery, sticking to a colour theme, how to edit your photos using the exact tools I use, and how to analyse your content.
Module 4: How to write better captions
It’s not enough to create beautiful and unique imagery without great captions.
It’s something that a lot of businesses and brands fail to consider; but creating catchy yet relevant captions is a really powerful way to attract an engaged community. Whilst coming up with good captions can be really hard, I’ll show you the methods I use to ensure people read what you have to say. And because a good caption could be one of the keys to have your posts seen by more people, learning to write good captions has never been more important – in this module, I’ll show you how.
Module 5: A few quick tips about hashtags
Hashtags won’t save your business, but they will help considerably. In this module, I will share nine tips about hashtags that you can put into action straight away.
Module 6: How to grow your community
This is a subject discussed a lot, yet I like to think about growing your community a little differently than most. In this module, I’ll share some strategies you can put into practice that will help grow your Instagram community, but also take people off Instagram and direct them to your other places in your online ecosystem, including your website, blog and newsletters. I’ll also share tips around working with Influencers, how to engage strategically and how to use Insights to grow your community.
Module 7: How to create effective Stories and Highlights
You won’t be surprised to learn that more and more people are looking at Stories before they are scrolling down their feed these days. In this module, I’ll share some tips and advice as to how you can make your Stories and Highlights more engaging. I’ll also share why it’s important to use Stories as a strategy to get people to visit your Instagram content, and website.
Module 8: What you need to know about algorithms, insights and engagement
The Instagram algorithm is a constant guessing game. It’s always changing, it’s hard to understand, it’s difficult to keep up with and it’s overall, very annoying. It’s no secret, we all hate it. But the thing is, if you want to get ahead on Instagram, you need to work with it, not against it. And I’ll show you how. All you need to do is understand the factors that influence it.
Module 9: Optimising your Instagram profile
You may not know it, but your Instagram profile is becoming just as important as the homepage on your website. And when 60% of Instagram users seek out and discover new products on Instagram (that’s 600 million people) you can’t afford to leave your bio as an afterthought. In this module, I’ll show you how to optimise your Instagram profile and share examples as well.

Instagram likes to keep us on our toes, so it’s important you stay on top of the new features being announced. In this module I’ll share five big changes and features that are being trialled and will come into effect in the next 12 months. So they say…
Module 11: How to create a great workflow
Instagram can waste a lot of time. It can also really affect your mental health; trust me, I’ve been there done that. In this module, I will share my own personal experiences with Instagram. I will show you the very methods I use that will help you streamline your process, create an effective workflow and ensure you don’t get weighed down by the negative impact Instagram can have on your mental health.
who this workshop IS for
This workshop is for people who have launched their own small creative business in the last two years and need help using Instagram, but don’t know where to start. Students will need to have used Instagram for their business prior to the workshop, and have a good understanding of how to post, how to upload Stories and create to Highlights, and what Insights are.
Students will walk away from this workshop feeling armed, inspired, motivated and ready to strengthen their Instagram offering, which they can implement straight away.
WHAT THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT
This workshop is not for people who only have a basic understanding of Instagram. Instagram is not the answer – it should simply form a small yet unique part of your overall marketing mix for your business. This workshop does not delve into Instagram Advertising.
