Learn basic leather working skills and make your own leather belt in this 2.5 hour, project based leather craft for beginners workshop with leather crafter and designer Katie Engelhardt from Studio Libelling.
With a focus on the material, tools and process, Katie will lead you through basic leather crafting techniques as you put them into practice creating your very own leather belt. Using locally sourced, Australian veg tanned leather and high quality brass hardware, you will try your hands at cutting leather, stamping and riveting and go home with a finished piece that you will be proud of for years to come!
Along the way you will also gain some insight into the different types of leather, it’s structure and layers, find out the difference between ‘full-grain’ and ‘genuine’ leather, how to properly care for your leather items and a little about the local leather industry and practices.
A fun and practical workshop suitable for beginners, or anyone in need of a fancy new belt! All materials will be supplied, though you will need to bring an existing (well loved) belt to get an accurate belt size.
