Brush Lettering Basics

Brush Script Lettering is a versatile tool to have in your repertoire, and once you know the basics, different treatments can be applied to create countless styles! This workshop will guide you through all the need to know fundamentals of handcrafted typography and brush script lettering. For the first part of the class, we will focus on the set of basic strokes that combine to create a hand lettered alphabet — as well as how to hold and angle the Tombow brush pen. The focus will then shift to what makes good brush lettering, consistency, various styles and embellishments.   

You’ll walk away with an improved knowledge of typography and brand new handmade skills to apply to anything from posters, cards, personal projects and beyond.

All lettering lovers welcome! This workshop covers the basics so you can achieve a good understanding of technique to improve on at home. No prior experience necessary.
