In this workshop with Sam and Duncan from craft brewery Hop Nation you’ll learn all about IPA style beers, from the history, different styles, ingredients, to hopping your own wort and tasting the final product.
First we will take you through a brief history and the development of the modern IPA styles found here in Australia and round the world. While you are listening we will have a 50L kettle full of fresh wort awaiting hop additions. We will then look through the ingredients used in IPA style beers and how they affect the final brew. You can look, touch and taste these ingredients to gain a better understanding of their interaction in the final beer. We will hop some wort enjoy the aromas and physically understand what happened to hops in terms of bitterness aroma and flavour during the boil. Then on to the real work! Tasting – we will take you through a tasting panel of IPA style beers, looking and thinking about malt, hops and the brewers touch.
