It can be absolutely heartbreaking to wake up one morning and find your brand, design, artwork or business idea has been entirely ripped off by someone else, yet this is a problem that happens all the time for creative businesses.

But the good news is, understanding Copyright Law and the role it plays in protecting your most important asset (your intellectual property) needn’t be as hard as you think!

This essential (and fun) workshop is aimed at creatives, entrepreneurs and small business owners. It is about how to legally protect your best assets – your ideas!

The seminar will cover how copyright is used to protect everything from products, to logos and even marketing material, before delving into some ‘grey-areas’ of copyright law such as street art and tattoo art. Naturally, the internet and social media will also be covered.  In this interactive and engaging workshop Sharon will guide you through the proactive steps you need to take to prevent copying, how to make sure you own something (especially if you are use freelancers, interns or take an old idea and recycle it into something new ) and practical steps you can take if you believe you have been copied. Sharon will aim to demystify copyright law though use of relevant case studies, useful tips and plenty of real life examples to bring this all to life.

Sharon will also be canvassing elements of her book Owning It: A Creative’s Guide to Copyright, Contracts and the Law, available through Creative Minds Publishing (link towww.creativemindshq.com/owningit) which aims to demystify the law for creative and small business owners regarding the protection of their designs, trade marks, copyright, reputation, confidential information and other intellectual property.  Copies will be for sale on the day for the price of $70 (so bring some money if you want to buy one)
