In this hands-on workshop, printmaker Hanah Williams will teach you all about the magic of etching and intaglio printmaking!

The term intaglio is used to describe a family of printmaking that uses the incised line in a surface (usually a metal) to retain ink which is then transferred to paper by way of pressure. This process is the direct opposite of relief printmaking. The method of intaglio printmaking is an ancient art which originated from when metalsmiths would transfer designs engraved in armour to show examples of their work.

Hanah will teach you how to prepare an etching plate, create a design and print their plate onto beautiful cotton-rag printmaking paper using a printing press.

You will be provided with all the tools you need during the class, and the skills to keep etching at home! No previous experience or skill is required for this class – total beginners are welcome. We also recommend that you have an idea of the design you’d like to create before you come along to the class.
