2018 marks the 100th Anniversary of the First World War. As part of commemorating this, the Australian War Memorial will be creating a stunning large scale installation of 60, 000 hand made poppies, carpeting the grounds for Remembrance Day. Each poppy will represent one life lost in World War I.
Online group 5000 Poppies is leading the charge and has put a call out to skilled knitters and crocheters. We would like to help them to their goals! They currently have around 18,000- 20,000 already made but there is still a long way to go!
A second project is planned to create 50, 000 lapel pins for the Victorian RSL club’s 2018 Anzac Day celebrations. Whilst they have already created 20,000 of these there is still another 30, 000 to make by April 2018.
With these deadlines in mind, Workshop Freo and Coral and Cactus would like to invite you to get together and crochet for this cause. Join us on the first Wednesday evening of the month to smash out some poppies, have a chat and meet some likeminded crafters.
Seasoned crocheters, come along with your hooks and your red yarn! Newbies are welcome as well! Cass and Maddy will be there to get you started. Kits to get you going will be available for purchase for $15.
This is a not for profit workshop.
