Digital Fabrication: 3D Printing

Learn the basics of 3D Printing and create yourself in plastic!

The workshop is a 3 hour course consisting 2 x 1 ½ hours sessions with a break in the middle. The first half provides a brief introduction to 3D printing and dives straight into learning how to create your own designs. We will be working around modelling your own keychain or a pendant on free web based design tools, which students will be able to access outside of the class. The aim of this class is to show how easy is it to get into 3D Printing and students can subsequently watch their own designs being printed.

The second half will involve a more indepth look at the technical side of 3D printing. This will cover the various technology available, easily accessible software, and 3D printers on the market. We will also look at what the options are for 3D printing should one choose not to own one. In this session, we will also be creating 3D Selfies using a 3D scanner. At the end of the course, each student will be able to hold and walk away with their very own design creation. 3D selfies will be printed off-site and students will be informed when they can pick up their 3d selfies. Students as young as 12 years old can sign up for this course.
